LAfayette House: A bold and eclectic modern renovation in Newburyport designed for gathering, hosting, and everyday living with warmth and personality.
Lafayette House was designed around one central idea: creating a home that feels just as inviting for a quiet night in as it does for a house full of guests. Located in Newburyport, this renovation included a two-story addition that introduced a spacious butler’s pantry and wet bar just off the dining room—perfectly tailored to our clients’ love of hosting. Moody black cabinetry, a large wine fridge, and a hidden tuck-away bar concealed behind pocket doors give the space a layered, speakeasy-inspired feel while still remaining highly functional.
Throughout the home, eclectic details and mid-century modern influences create a sense of personality and warmth. In the dining room, a classic burnt orange Malm wood stove acts as the heart of the space, bringing character and nostalgia into the otherwise modern design. The adjacent kitchen balances contrast beautifully with black lower cabinetry, white oak uppers, and Cosentino Dekton countertops in the REM finish. Extensive built-in storage continues seamlessly into the coffee bar area, making the kitchen feel both elevated and deeply practical for daily life.
In the living room, we reimagined the fireplace wall with vertical wood slats and acoustic backing to improve sound quality during movie nights while adding texture and architectural interest to the space. The result is a home that feels cohesive, cozy, and unapologetically personal—a modern eclectic retreat that invites you to settle in and stay awhile.
