Outdoor Furniture- What to look for & how to maintain it
There’s that saying quality over quantity and when it comes to long lasting furniture for our outdoor spaces its important to take into consideration the materials from which they are made.
We recommend cedar, acacia, eucalyptus and of course teak due to their natural moisture wicking properties. ver the years proper maintenance such as sanding and application of moisturizing wood oil is key to longevity. As these woods age some enjoy the look of weathered teak, others want to retain the wood's initial brown shade. The most effective way to do this is by adding a teak sealer or protector to your teak furniture care routine. Teak sealants keep the wood's natural oils from depleting, thus delaying the weathering process.
If sealant hasn’t been applied after purchasing the outdoor elements will over time bring a grey patina. To remove it you can use a power washer followed by a light sand and finish by applying the protector.
For outdoor cushions our go to would have to be Olefin. This fabric is fade resistant, dries quickly, resistant to mildew and stains making it a great option for outdoor furniture.
